Early snow

It snowed here last evening and into this morning--a heavy, wet, clingy snow. The snow didn't accumulate much, just enough to flock the world. I took these images of a partially frozen pond under leaden skies. Once November arrives, these images match my general demeanor.

First foray!

Here begins what I hope will be a set of reflections on my life as a male bi-sexual professional naturalist and scientist living and working the Mid-Atlantic region of the East Coast of the United States. I'm not "out" except to my wife and to one friend; to everyone else, I'm a perfectly respectable middle-aged professional--a pillar of the community with (ostensible) Republican leanings that helps maintain my professional "cover." In my postings I intend to try to strike a balance between my personal life and observations about the natural world, about which I care very deeply. Stay tuned...
